Experience the acoustic gospel blues of the Band of Pilgrims and the luscious choral harmonies of the University of Bristol Church Choir as they explore the world of gospel and blues in the striking venue of St Paul’s Church Clifton.
Join these unique and talented groups on the well-trodden musical journey of blues players, traversing the low-lit Saturday night blues gigs before entering the streaming light of the Sunday morning church. Saturday Blues and Sunday Church will explore the relationships between blues and suffering, and the juxtaposition found in early gospel blues and joyful release in church.

The Band of Pilgrims are a south-west based semi-acoustic band playing and singing original and some traditional songs influenced by early gospel blues and contemporary r‘n’b. With a good level of musicianship, they aim to be uplifting and inspiring to listening audiences.
The University of Bristol Church Choir is a busy and committed choir who singing a range of choral music to a high standard. Since 1972, the choir has been welcoming University of Bristol students wishing to sing exquisite and powerful choral music weekly St Paul’s Church Clifton. The choir seeks to celebrate and promote the English Choral Tradition, as well as highlighting the role choral music plays in other genres and cultures.
This event is held in partnership with One Equal Music, the music foundation at St Paul’s Church Clifton. One Equal Music seeks to widen access to musical opportunities, in order to improve wellbeing, foster community, raise confidence, and encourage talent. All ticket proceeds for this event will go into the One Equal Music fund, supporting in particular OEM’s East Bristol Schools Outreach Programme, dementia and Alzheimer’s ‘Singing for the Brain’ provision, and Choral Scholarship programme.
