Festival Young Artist, Zosia Dzimitrowicz, displays extraordinary virtuosity in this varied programme of classics for piano.
Beethoven’s ‘Waldstein’ Sonata set a standard for piano composition in the grand manner, and is one of the composer’s key works from the ‘Heroic’ period, being universally recognised as one of the greatest and most technically challenging of all his sonatas.
Mendelssohn’s Variations Sérieuses were written as part of a campaign to erect a bronze statue of Beethoven in his hometown of Bonn and was published as part of a larger collection dedicated to the composer, with other contributions by the likes of Liszt and Chopin. The work transforms a melancholic theme in D minor through a set of 17 variations ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous.
