Details of the kind of services we offer when things are back to normal are below:
The main service is the Parish Sung Eucharist at 10:30 with a children’s group. Worship is enhanced by the Bristol University church choir whose repertoire is wide-ranging and mainly from the classical Anglican tradition led by organ scholars.
The morning service is a Eucharist with an open table and once monthly there is a more informal service. There are twice termly choral evensongs and a yearly advent carol service.
We share some of the services for the church festivals with our sister church Cotham Parish church.
Midweek services include Wednesday morning prayer
We run a number of events throughout the year.
Lent Groups – a weekly group to enrich our journey through Lent
Good Friday workshop – a morning of creativity and reflection suitable for all ages
Benefice Retreat – a weekend of prayer, scripture, scenery and great food in South Wales

Concerts and Recitals
St Paul’s is a great venue for concerts and recitals with a good acoustic, a lovely performing area on the dais and an excellent concert grand piano. Local groups and solo performers often use the church for their events and we are pleased to host regularly a number of the concerts that are part of the Bristol University series, as well as one-off concerts put on by University student groups. Recent concerts have included those given by the Bristol University Madrigal Ensemble, concerts of chamber music, evening carol concerts by Bristol University Singers, recital by the Trio Arcadia di Roma, visiting from Italy, and performances by our own church choir! The church is also used by the student Opera Society for their productions from time to time and in recent years, we have hosted concerts for the Clifton International Festival of Music.
Bristol University Music Summerfest
Student ensembles from the University of Bristol will be holding their virtual charity SummerFest 2020, from Monday 15th to Friday 19th June. In previous years many of these festival concerts have been held in St Paul’s and we look forward to welcoming them back next summer. For this year we look forward to listening to the students’ recordings, which will be raising money for five charities (details below). There will be two updates each day (“lunchtime” and “evening” concerts) where you can enjoy the students’ virtual music making. These will be uploaded on the Music Department’s events listings at bristol.ac.uk/music/events/ and on the department’s facebook and twitter accounts (and those of the participating ensembles also).
On the final day there will be a link to a fun voting competition and there will be regular links to the chosen charities. You can look forward to a wide range of musical videos, from string, brass, wind, jazz and Baroque ensembles, opera selections, A cappella groups and more!
The ensembles involved will greatly appreciate your support on social media by sharing the announcements and events, and retweeting please. They hope to raise as much money as possible – their target is £100 for each of the five charities: Music for All, Shelter, Black Lives Matter UK, NHS Charities Together, Bristol Foodbanks
Enquiries about musical events at the church or making a booking for a concert or for rehearsals can be addressed to the church office on firstname.lastname@example.org.
